chasing rainbows, dreams i wish i had
“Chasing Rainbows” //
This image is part of an ongoing series of landscapes and waterscapes. These particular images were captured during time spent traveling between Hermosa Beach, California and Toronto.
I take him with me or rather, I see him in the place I go. Perhaps he's everywhere.
I’ve learned to rearrange my longing for my departed brother, by celebrating his existence through epic imagery. I now see him in all forms of waters’ change. He is part of the cycle, a body gone back to the molecular beginnings we all come from. He is a shape shifter and these are my visual meditations.
Stuart and I had an obsession for water and grew up part time near a river. After a near-drowning incident together when we were 8 and 10 years old, our infatuation became strangely more tenacious. We vowed to deny fear, moving forward and remember our allegiance to and infatuation for our faithful play space.
This work explores the fantasy of flight. Provocation of movement, forward motion, bouncing above and past obstruction. Set in the visual meditative space that is a form of my brother’s existence; water. A semblance of floating moments, hanging in a stop motion moment of nostalgic desire. Part of the continuum, life is epic, natural beauty scapes.
These images are made up of multiple layers and combinations of captures, sculpted together to create a larger story. Each detailed nuance and gesture of cloud and waters’ surface is a character. They are carefully painted into a choreographed, waterscape dance.
Intended for immensely large scale, an emphasis on highly detailed aesthetics seduces the viewer into the feeling of flight.
